Future Projects

About Future Projects

This is the future but with a twist! Every day is a surprise!

Who can tell what the future will bring?! I can only tell my plans and ofcourse, everything can change at any time :) Anyway, below is a list of things that I would really like to realize, some sooner, some later:

  • A book about a mouse and his robot
  • An activity book for (Dutch) senior citizens
  • A PC game, to publish on Steam
  • A wooden kinetic art sculpture, to hang above my staircase
  • A book tree; shelves in the shape of a tree to hold all my books
  • A 360 degree painting, covering all the places we went
  • A life-size mural on the side of my garden shed
  • A stone sculpture
  • A wooden couch with only round curves
  • A tiny house in the shape of a pyramid
  • A sphere shaped green house
  • More painting
  • ......
  • ...So many things...
  • ....I could continue this list forever....

Anyway, below are the three things that I am currently working on!

Mouse and robot

A hand drawn page
A cat

Mouse and Robot (working title)

This will be a children's picture book with 14 hand-drawn pages (double size, so each drawing covers 2 pages, left and right). Most of the pages are drawn and colored, the text needs some revising, but it is almost ready!

I have worked on and off on this project for the last... maybe... 15 years or so. I first made several drawings with pen and paper, scanned them, worked on them digitally (above pictures are from this old version). But now, I have much better tools (most importantly a powerful and 360° convertible laptop with stylus input) and I have revised the story, created all new pages, colored them, and it all looks so much better now! I hope to publish this book via an actual publisher instead of just selling it on Amazon, because I would really like this book to be in bookstores and libraries!

Senior Activity Book

A Fairy
A fairy as spiral
A senior king

A senior activity book specifically for Dutch elderly!

I will not tell or show it yet, but I already have a good idea what it should be, ofcourse it will fall in one of my surprise coloring categories. It will be a book for elderly people, most likely in nursing homes who need to be taken care of. These people can benefit from activities that, not only, keep them busy but also practices their brain, motorskills, hand-eye coordination and attention. An activity book with numbers or characters may help them in a fun way, however, it needs to keep in mind that eldery often suffer from shaking hands, poor eye-sight or poor understanding of the task. Therefore, I am creating an activity book that, at least for Dutch people, have recognizable images, is easy to understand and big enough to see.

Games!

I have been trying to make games since I was 10 years old, it is time to finish at least one game!

Above are three screenshots of my most ambitious attempt to make a 3D game. In this game, a player flies around a tiny planet to kill of an invasive species and make the planet healthy again. The surface of the planet is destructable, the goal is to keep as much of the planet in tact as possible while still killing all the aliens. There is also a local co-op and local versus mode where players can fight off the invasion together or win by claiming the biggest part of the planet. I have used the monogame framework and made the whole engine by myself. I have worked on for a long time, I achieved more than I ever thought was possible but had to abandon it anyway. It still needed a lot of work to finish and polish it, but to be honest... it was no longer that much fun to play the game.

More recently, I created a traffic system. The first screenshot shows how cars and pedestrians drive and walk on roads and sidewalks, making random decisions in which direction they go when arriving at a junction. The second screenshot demonstrates path-finding where the car find the shortest route to the next pickup and drives to that location until there are no more pickups. Ideas and algorithms from these two demo's found their way into the game "SnakeTrain" (third screenshot) which will soon launch on the Google Play Store.
